Reduced-order thermodynamic models for servo-pneumatic actuator chambers

چکیده
This paper discusses thermodynamic models of air inside pneumatic actuator chambers. In servo-pneumatics common practice, these models are simplified by neglecting the temperature dynamics. Classical models in the literature assume the temperature inside the pneumatic chamber either to be constant or to follow a polytropic law. Furthermore, the mixing process of air entering the chamber and heat transfer between air and cylinder walls is often neglected or only implicitly taken into account. This work evaluates the impact of these simplifications and order reductions in the prediction of pressure inside the actuator chamber. Classical models are compared with several others not only taking into account the mixing process but also explicitly including the heat transfer between air and cylinder walls. Simulation studies show that the reduced-order models proposed in this paper can lead to a mean square error in pressure prediction of only 10 per cent of that obtained using classical models.

A Novel Real-Time Path Servo Control of a Hardware-in-the-Loop for a Large-Stroke Asymmetric Rod-Less Pneumatic System under Variable Loads
This project aims to develop a novel large stroke asymmetric pneumatic servo system of a hardware-in-the-loop for path tracking control under variable loads based on the MATLAB Simulink real-time system. High pressure compressed air provided by the air compressor is utilized for the pneumatic proportional servo valve to drive the large stroke asymmetric rod-less pneumatic actuator. Due to the p...

This paper proposes a structure and control approach for the energy saving servo control of a pneumatic servo system. The energy saving approach is enabled by supplementing a standard four-way spool valve controlled pneumatic actuator with an additional two-way valve that enables flow between the cylinder chambers. The “crossflow” valve enables recirculation of pressurized air, and thus enables...

This study aims to develop a X-Y dual-axial intelligent servo pneumatic-piezoelectric hybrid actuator for position control with high response, large stroke (250 mm, 200 mm) and nanometer accuracy (20 nm). In each axis, the rodless pneumatic actuator serves to position in coarse stroke and the piezoelectric actuator compensates in fine stroke. Thus, the overall control systems of the single axis...
متن کاملControl of a pneumatic drive using electronic pressure valves
The primary task of the electronic pressure (E/P) valves is to control the pressure continuously in different industrial automation processes. Their use in pneumatic drives allows regulating pressures in both cylinder chambers and so it is possible to achieve a direct force controlled actuator. Additionally to the force control, position control of the pneumatic actuator using E/P valves has be...

Abstract The paper conducts energy efficiency analysis of servo pneumatic actuator systems and presents a method of energy efficient optimal control. The system is linearised through input/output state feedback and then energy efficient optimal control theory is applied to the linearised system. An optimal control strategy is developed with respect to the transformed states of the linear system...
